The steep sharp switchbacks along the Whitney Portal road were prominent in scenes in the Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz film “The Long, Long Trailer.

The road is also featured in the film classic “High Sierra" staring Humphrey Bogart.

The 14,495 ft. Mt. Whitney rises more than 10,000 feet above the valley. It is the most climbed mountain in the US. Each year over 10,000 people obtain permits to make the strenuous 22 mile round trip hike to the summit from the trailhead.

This waterfall is from snow melt. Very cold water!

There is ice around the edges and on branches.

There is ice on most of the rocks.
