We made our last trip to the Keys in April 1979. The biggest improvement is in the new bridges. There are 27 bridges between Key Largo and Key West. One bridge is 7 miles long. The old bridges were very narrow and pulling the trailer was very scary whenever a truck or trailer came from the opposite direction.

This time we bypassed camping at Key Largo and John Pennycamp State Park. John Pennycamp SP is where we canoed through the Mangrove Trees.
I'm sure that everyone who made that trip with us will remember that.

Sunshine Key RV Resort changed only slightly in all those years.

This is one of the old bridges.
They built the new bridges in along side the old, and left the old standing.
The old are used by the fisherman! They set up tents and spend the whole day!
I measured the width of a lane. It is 9 feet from curb to yellow line.
Our trailer was 8 feet wide!

This is the start of the "7 mile bridge."
The new bridges have 10 foot wide lanes plus the shoulder.

The Sunshine Key campground has many a nice places to sit in the shade at the waters edge. We are sitting almost in front of our campsite.
It was 91 degrees but there was a pleasant breeze coming off of the water.
It was a great place to read our books and just watch the birds.
There is a nice big beach for swimming - water temperature around 85 degrees.
After swimming in the salt water is was great jumping into the fresh water pool.

Mom is talking on the phone to the mothers at Lemoyne Manor.

We went to Bahia Honda State Park on the next Key (Bahia Honda Key.)
It won an award as the best beach in the US in 1998.
The water was actually greener than it appears in the picture.
It is almost like Icky Vicky's bedroom walls!

There are many seasonal campers here and they really fix up their sites.
Most had these canopys with celing lights and fans.
They had outside sinks, freezers, TV's, electric golf carts, even lights in the trees.
